Istat, industry collapses: -9,2%

April recorded the worst data since 2009: -9,2% on year and -1,9% compared to March – The sectors that suffered the most were intermediate goods (-12,8%) and energy (-3,8%) – The only growing sector is mining (+6,5%) – Car production grows +5,7% y/y – Piazza Affari worsens at -2,28 %.

Industrial production begins to feel the whole crisis on its shoulders. The index that measures the performance of the industry, corrected for calendar effects, collapsed in April, marking a -9,2% compared to the same month in 2011: it is the worst figure since November 2009. This was announced by Istat specifying that, compared to March, production decreased by 1,9%. Between February and April, the index recorded an average decline of 2,5%, compared to the previous three months. The crude trend data shows a decline in industrial production was 11,9%. 

All sectors recorded negative trend changes in the first four months of 2012. The most marked decrease was i intermediate goods, and with a decrease of 12,8%. But significant drops were also recorded in other sectors: -7,9% for consumer goods, -6,2% for capital goods and -3,8% for energy.

In April, on the other hand, mining activities were saved, increasing by 6,5%. While in the other sectors the largest decreases are recorded in the manufacture of electrical equipment and non-electrical household equipment (-15,6%), in the manufacture of rubber and plastic material items, in other non-metallic mineral processing products ( -14,7%), in metallurgy and manufacturing of metal products (-12,1%) and in the manufacturing of chemical products (-10,3%).
