The indices improve in all sectors (manufacturing, services and retail trade), but expectations on order books remain negative.

Istat: business confidence dates back to October

It gets better in October the trust of Italian companies. The composite index calculated byIstat salt this month to 89,3 points, from 86,9 in September. The statistical institute reports that the climate of confidence "is improving in all sectors: manufacturing, market services, construction and retail trade".

In detail, the index relating to manufacturing companies it rises to 96, from 95,5 in September. Assessments on order books “improve slightly (from -26 to -25) and production expectations remain stable (2); the balance relating to assessments on inventories remains unchanged (3)”, continues the note from Istat.

Confidence analysis for major groupings of industries indicates an improvement for consumer goods (from 95,5 to 95,7) and for intermediate goods (from 95,9 to 97,5) and stability for capital goods (to 95,9). The index for construction companies rose to 77,5 from 75,5 in September. Employment expectations improve (balances from -23 to -21), but assessments on orders and construction plans worsen (from -48 to -50).

As for the seasonally adjusted index on the confidence of service companies, rises to 89,2 points from 85,1 in September. All the components improved: the balances relating to judgments and expectations on order books grew (respectively from -17 to -15 and from -4 to 1) and to expectations on the performance of the Italian economy (from -33 to -28).

In Retail, concludes the statistical institute, the confidence climate index rises from 92,1 to 93,9. Confidence improved both in large-scale retail (from 89,9 to 91,8) and in traditional retail (from 94,8 to 96,7).
