In May, the consumer confidence index fell to 85,9 points, from 86,3 the previous month. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that the component referring to the economic situation decreased (the relative index went from 73,3 to 70,5), while that relating to the personal climate increased (from 90,5 to 92,0 ). The current climate is stationary at 90,1 while the future climate decreases (from 80,8 to 80,6).

Assessments and expectations on the country's economic situation deteriorate considerably: the respective balances go from -138 to -145 and from -50 to -60. As regards expectations on unemployment, on the contrary, a decrease was recorded (from 109 to 105).

Assessments of the household's economic situation improve (from -72 to -65 assessments and from -29 to -23 expectations). The balance of assessments on the family budget increased (from -28 to -23). Current savings opportunities worsen (from 121 to 116), while opinions on future savings opportunities recover (from -90 to -85). Assessments on the opportunity to purchase durable goods worsen (from -102 to -106).

The balance of assessments on the recent evolution of consumer prices is increasing (from 37 to 50). Assessments of the evolution of prices over the next twelve months indicate expectations of slight price increases (from -3 to 3).

At the territorial level, the confidence climate index increases in the North-West and decreases in the rest of the country.
