In January inflation Italy stood at 0,7%, the same value as the previous month. Istat communicates this in its preliminary estimates, specifying that the national consumer price index increased by 0,2% compared to December. This morning, moreover, the statistical institute communicated some changes in the reference basket.
As for the so-called shopping cart, the index which includes only the average prices of the most purchased products, in January there was an increase of 0,3% on a monthly basis and 1,1% on an annual basis (down from the +1,2% of December).
THEunderlying inflation, net of unprocessed food and energy goods, rises to 1%, from 0,9% in December, while net of energy goods alone, the figure remains stable at 1,0%.
The monthly rise in the general index is due both to seasonal factors, which explain the growth in the prices of fresh vegetables (+4,2%), and to cyclical increases in most of the other types of goods and services.
This increase was mitigated by the monthly drop in the prices of transport services (-0,5%), also influenced by seasonal factors.
THEacquired inflation for 2014 it is equal to 0,2%.
