Back to growth for the first time in 10 months in Aprilinflation Italian, although still remaining at very low levels. According to data released today by Istat, last month the average rise in prices was 0,6% on an annual basis, against the +0,4% recorded in March.
The statistical institute explains that the positive variation is mainly linked to the acceleration in the prices of services relating to transport (+2,2%) and to the reduction in the extent of the downward trend in the prices of unregulated energy goods.
In April, the prices of the most frequently purchased products - the so-called "shopping cart" - did not change compared to the previous month, while they grew by 0,5% compared to April 2013, with a slight acceleration compared to the trend recorded in March (+0,4%).
Food prices (including alcoholic beverages) fell by 0,1% month-on-month and their year-on-year growth rate narrowed by two-tenths of a percentage point to 0,5% (from + 0,7% from the previous month), for the first time since November 2012 below (by a tenth of a point) general inflation.
