The Italians had already noticed it, but today Istat certification has arrived: prices in Italy have shot up, starting with petrol and the most common consumer goods. In April, according to preliminary data released by the Institute of Statistics, Gasoline increased by 3,1% quarter-on-quarter and as much as 20,8% year-on-year, the highest trend increase since January 1996. The price of diesel marks a monthly increase of 0,9% and 20,5% per year, compared to +22,5% in the previous month. As for gas, the increase is 1,5% on month and 15,1% on year, after +15,6% in March.

Thus we arrive at the notorious “shopping cart“, which has jumped to its highest level in almost four years. Also in April, according to Istat, the prices of products purchased most frequently recorded a month-on-month increase of 0,4%, while the annual growth rate rose to 4,7% from 4,6% in March. In this case, it is the largest year-on-year increase since September 2008, when the figure had marked a growth of 5,4%.

In general, however, the inflation numbers remain stable, at least to read "the national consumer price index for the whole community", including tobacco, which recorded an increase of 0,5% compared to the previous month and 3,3% on April 2011. The same values, indicates Istat, recorded in March 2012. Finally, as regards the inflation acquired for 2012, it is equal to 2,7%, compared to +2,3, XNUMX reported last month.
