Istat, inflation: +3,2% in September, but the "shopping cart" flies (+4,7%)

In September, inflation in Italy remained stable at 3,2% on an annual basis, while compared to August there was no change. Inflation acquired for 2012 is confirmed at 3% and the underlying rate, calculated net of energy goods and fresh foodstuffs, drops to 1,9% from 2,1% in August. Excluding energy goods alone, the growth trend in consumer prices slows down to 2% (+2,2% in the previous month). These are the latest provisional data provided by Istat.

The situation is different for the so-called "shopping cart", which includes the prices of the most frequently purchased products, from food to fuel. In this case the rate is much higher, at 4,7%, with a strong acceleration compared to what was recorded in August (4,2%).

Even on a monthly basis there was a sustained increase (+0,8%). Above all, the strong increases for petrol and diesel and for foodstuffs, which mark a growth trend of 2,9%, the largest increase since December 2011, have an impact.

Green was up 4% in September and transportation diesel was up 3,1%. On an annual basis, the increase is as much as 20,2% for petrol (from 15,1% in August) and 21,7% for diesel (from 17,5% in August).
