New collapse of Italian industrial production. In July, the Istat index fell by 0,2% on a monthly basis and by 7,3% in trend terms, while on average for the May-July period there was a decrease of 1,2% compared to the immediate quarter previous.
July was the eleventh consecutive monthly decline in industrial production. On average for the first seven months of the year, continues Istat, production decreased by 7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The indices corrected for calendar effects recorded, in July, a tendential growth for the energy sector alone (+2,4%). Significant drops were recorded for capital goods (-9,7%) and for intermediate goods (-7,7%), while consumer goods reported a more limited drop (-6,8%).
In comparison with the trend, the only growing sector is that of the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+3,6%). The largest decreases are recorded for the sectors of other manufacturing industries, repair and installation of machines and equipment (-15,5%), of the manufacture of electrical equipment and non-electrical household appliances (-9,8%), of wood, paper and printing industry (-9,7%) and the manufacture of means of transport (-9,5%).
