Italian industry raises its head slightly. According to data released this morning by Istat, in August the turnover of the sector recorded a growth of 0,4% compared to July, the synthesis of a 3% increase on the foreign market and a 1% decrease on the domestic one .
On an annual basis, however, the total turnover marks a sharp contraction (-2,3%): the good performance of exports (+1,8%) was not enough to compensate for the collapse of the domestic market (-4,4% ). In addition, the trend remains negative on average for the last three months: -1,1% compared to the previous three months.
Orders to industry also show growth on a monthly basis in August, but show a marked negative change compared to the same month of the previous year. Again according to Istat, in August total orders experienced a cyclical increase of 1,5%. On an annual basis, however, the raw index of orders shows a negative variation of 3,2%.
