Istat, industry: orders and turnover grow in March

Turnover +0,9% in March, orders +2,8% on an annual basis – On average over the last three months, the overall turnover index grew by 0,5% compared to the previous three months: +0,9% the foreign one and +0,3% for the domestic one.

In March, the turnover of Italian industry increased by 0,3% compared to February, recording an increase of 0,9% on the domestic market and a drop of 0,8% on the foreign market. Orders, on the other hand, recorded a 1,3% cyclical increase, a synthesis of a 3,5% increase in foreign orders and a 0,2% decrease in domestic ones. In comparison with the month of March 2013, the raw index of orders marks an increase of 2,8%.

This was noted by Istat, specifying that on average over the last three months the overall turnover index grew by 0,5% compared to the previous three months (+0,9% for foreign turnover and +0,3% for internal). Corrected for calendar effects, total turnover rose in trend terms by 2,7%, with increases of 4,2% on the foreign market and 1,8% on the domestic one.

The seasonally adjusted turnover indices show a cyclical increase for capital goods (+2,0%), while they record decreases for energy (-0,6%), for consumer goods (-0,5%) and for intermediate goods (-0,1%).

The raw turnover index grows, in trend terms, by 2,5%, and the largest contribution comes from the internal component of capital goods. In terms of turnover, the most significant trend increase is recorded in the manufacture of means of transport (+25,9%), while the greatest decrease concerns the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-7,0%).
