Istat, industrial production growing in April

The monthly survey by Istat shows an increase in production, compared to the same month in 2010. Intermediate goods are doing well, consumer goods are doing worse. Energy is decreasing.

According to the Institute of Statistics, in April 2011 industrial production grew by 3,7% compared to the same period of the previous year. Overall for the quarter the increase is 2,5% compared to January-April 2010. The seasonally adjusted figure (normalised by eliminating the physiological differences in consumption which are characteristic of each period of the year) shows a growth compared to the month of March , by 1%.

The fastest-moving goods are instrumental (+6,1%) and intermediate (+5,9%); the growth of consumer goods was more contained (+1,4%), while energy production decreased by 3,4%, a figure conditioned by the situation in North Africa. In manufacturing production, heavy industry is strong: machinery and equipment nec , rubber and plastic material items, metallurgy and metal production showed a huge trend growth.
