According to the Institute of Statistics, in April 2011 industrial production grew by 3,7% compared to the same period of the previous year. Overall for the quarter the increase is 2,5% compared to January-April 2010. The seasonally adjusted figure (normalised by eliminating the physiological differences in consumption which are characteristic of each period of the year) shows a growth compared to the month of March , by 1%.
The fastest-moving goods are instrumental (+6,1%) and intermediate (+5,9%); the growth of consumer goods was more contained (+1,4%), while energy production decreased by 3,4%, a figure conditioned by the situation in North Africa. In manufacturing production, heavy industry is strong: machinery and equipment nec , rubber and plastic material items, metallurgy and metal production showed a huge trend growth.
