During 2012, the greatest increases in regional exports concerned the Islands and the regions of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. While companies in Northern Italy still maintain good sales growth rates to non-EU markets.

THEIstat ha published last Wednesday the updates relating to Italian regional exports during the last three months of 2012. If, compared to the previous quarter, sales of goods on foreign markets are down for north-western Italy (-2,6%), north-eastern Italy (-1,3%) and almost stationary for central Italy (-0,1%), show a timid growth for the southern regions and islands (+1,0%).

During 2012, among the regions that present the greatest contributions to the growth of national exports, we note a significant increase in sales for Sardinia (+21,5%) and Sicily (+21,2%), while Umbria (+7,6%), Puglia (+7,3%) and Tuscany (+6,9) also have above-average growth rates, XNUMX%). There was a marked decline in exports from Basilicata (-17,5%), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (-8,9%), Valle d'Aosta (-6,4%), Molise (-6,1%) and Abruzzo ( -4,8%).

As far as the 'export to EU markets during 2012, Basilicata (-30,1%), Molise (-10,8%) and Valle d'Aosta (-10,3%) are the regions characterized by the greatest decrease in sales, while Lazio and Sicily, with a respective increase of +8,4% and +15,7%, there is significant growth towards the Community area. From the point of view of sales on non-EU markets, the regions that are characterized by the greatest increases in 2012 are Sicily (+24,7%), Tuscany (+13,0%), Lombardy (+10,1%), Piedmont (+10,5%), Veneto (+6,7%) and Emilia-Romagna (+6,2%).

During 2012 the main contributions to the growth of national exports are due to sales from Sicily to the USA (+155,1%), in particular coke and refined petroleum products (+26,1%), of Sardinia and Liguria to the OPEC countries (+161,8% and +121,2% respectively) and of Lazio to Belgium (+89,4%), see pharmaceutical, chemical-medicinal and botanical articles (+31,4%). On the other hand, there is a significant decrease sales from Veneto and Emilia-Romagna to China (respectively -26,2% and -14,8%), from Campania to Switzerland (-30,2%) and from Friuli-Venezia Giulia to France (- 19,2%). In particular, marked reductions in exports were recorded for means of transport, excluding motor vehicles, from Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Tuscany (-42,6% and -23,0% respectively), machinery and equipment from Friuli-Venezia Giulia ( -11,9%), motor vehicles from Basilicata and Lazio (respectively -37,1% and -25,1%).

From provincial point of view, the territories that contributed most to the growth of foreign exchanges were those of Massa-Carrara (+51,2%), Catania (+43,2%), Messina (+41,7%), Cagliari ( +23,9%), Syracuse (+23,3%), Piacenza (+18,6%), Taranto (+18,1%), Arezzo (+15,4%), Latina (+14,6% ), Alexandria (+12,7). Among the provinces that show a significant drop in sales abroad associated with a significant negative impact on the growth of national exports, we note Trieste (-25,3%), Udine (-8,7%) and Treviso (-6,1.
