Istat: inflation slows down, +0,8% year on year in October

According to Istat, inflation slowed down in October, recording an increase of 0,8% on an annual basis, against +0,9% in September – Compared to the previous month, the price index is down 0,2% – The gap between total inflation and the inflation of frequently purchased products has closed.

Inflation slowed down, rising by 0,8% on an annual basis in October (against +0,9% in September) and recording a drop of 0,2% compared to the previous month. This was revealed by Istat, which communicates that the more volatile components, such as energy goods and fresh food, are contributing to the slowdown, so much so that the growth of core inflation has remained stable at 1,2%.

Inflation acquired for 2013 drops to 1,2% from 1,3% in September. Excluding energy goods alone, the trend growth rate of the consumer price index drops to 1,1% (from 1,3% in the previous month).

The inflationary differential between services and goods is widening: on an annual basis, in fact, the growth rate of the prices of goods fell to 0,1%, from 0,4% in September, while that of the prices of services '1,4% (it was +1,5% in the previous month).

In October 2013, the harmonized index of consumer prices (Ipca) increased by 0,1% on a monthly basis and by 0,8% compared to October 2012 (+0,7% the provisional estimate), with a deceleration compared to what was recorded in September (+0,9%).

According to the data released by Istat, the prices of the most frequently purchased products, the so-called "shopping cart", show a decrease of 0,2% compared to the previous month and an increase of 0,8% on an annual basis , with a slowdown of two tenths of a percentage point compared to the trend recorded in September (+1,0%). The gap between the inflation of frequently purchased products and total inflation thus closes again.
