Istat: consumer confidence never so low

Italians no longer believe in it. According to the latest Istat data, in January the consumer confidence climate index dropped to 84,6 points from 85,7 in December. This is the lowest level ever recorded (time series started in 1996).

Both the component relating to personal climate fell (from 90,7 to 89,3), and, to a lesser extent, that relating to the general economic climate (from 72,9 to 72,7). The indicator of the current climate decreased (from 91,4 to 90,9) and that referring to the future situation (from 78,0 to 77,1). But that's not enough. Both assessments and expectations on the economic situation in Italy worsen slightly (respectively from -133 to -135 and from -60 to -61), while expectations on unemployment increase (from 104 to 106).

Opinions and expectations on the household's economic situation also worsened (from -74 to -79 and from -33 to -38). The balance of assessments on the family budget decreases from -29 to -33. Opinions on current savings opportunities have worsened from 136 to 130, while those on future opportunities are stable (-92). Opinions on the opportunity to purchase durable goods, on the other hand, improve from -110 to -106.

Territorially, the climate of confidence increases slightly in the North-West, while it decreases in the North-East, in the Center and in the South and Islands.
