Istat, Italian consumer confidence still declining in September

The confidence of Italian consumers continues to decline. In September, the index calculated by Istat fell to 98,5 points from 100,3 in August. “The decline, which is widespread across all components – reads a note from the statistical institute – is more marked for the economic climate, whose index decreases from 70,0 to 67,8. Confidence in the personal situation drops from 116,2 to 114,4”. As for the various geographical areas, the situation worsened almost everywhere, especially in the South. A slight recovery was recorded only in the North-East.

Assessments of the country's economic situation worsen, as do those of the family budget and the current opportunity for savings. But expectations on the evolution of the labor market are also deteriorating. On the other hand, expectations on the durable goods market and on future savings intentions improve. The balances of assessments on the recent evolution of consumer prices and those of forecasts on their future dynamics show an increase compared to the previous month.
