The exports of the Italian Regions grew by an average of 4,2% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2011. This was noted by Istat, adding that in the second quarter of 2012, compared to the previous quarter, sales of goods on foreign markets increased for all territorial divisions, albeit with different intensities: the most marked increases are recorded for the north-eastern (+3,9%) and north-western regions (+2,6%); the lower ones for the southern and insular ones (+1,9%) and the Center (+0,4%).
The trend dynamics of exports in the first half of 2012 is confirmed as positive for all divisions, even if progressively decelerating compared to the trends recorded in the first quarter. The island regions (+17,2%), the Center (+7,3%) and the North-Western (+4,4%) show higher growth than the national average (equal to 4,2%), while the tendential increase is particularly limited for southern Italy (+0,9%).
The regions that contribute the most to export growth (explaining more than 80% of the increase in national exports) are Lombardy (+4,9%), Tuscany (+10,7%), Emilia-Romagna (+5,2%) and Sicily (+21,2%).
Among the other regions that present a growth in sales on foreign markets higher than the national average are noted Puglia (+11,3%), Sardinia (+9,3%), Umbria (+8,5%) and Marche (+6,4%). A marked decrease was recorded for Basilicata (-30,1%), Molise (-17,3%) and Valle d'Aosta (-12,8%).
Particularly dynamic are the sales on foreign markets of coke and refined petroleum products from Sicily, of metals and metal products from Tuscany and Lombardy and of pharmaceutical, chemical-medicinal and botanical items from Lazio. A drop in exports was recorded for coke and refined petroleum products from Lazio, machinery and appliances nec from Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto and means of transport (motor vehicles excluded) from Tuscany and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Among the provinces with the highest contribution to the growth of national exports, they record the largest increases in exports Arezzo, Syracuse, Taranto and Piacenza.
