Istat, Italian exports + 11,4% in 2011

Istat has released the final data on the trend of Italian exports in 2011 divided by region.

In the last year, Italian exports have grown overall by Present in several = 11,4% compared to 2010 for a value of almost 376 billion euros. Confirming the slowdown in the economy, however, the last quarter of 2011 saw a generalized slowdown (excluding the regions of central Italy).

Breaking down the growth rates at macro-regional level, it emerges that central Italy recorded a rate above the average (13%), while growth was more contained in the south. However, it is precisely two regions of the South that lead the ranking of year-on-year performances; in fact the Puglia recorded the largest increase in exports with an even rate Present in several = 17,9%, closely followed by Sicilia Present in several = 15,5%. Only three regions had a decrease in exports notably Molise (-4,1%), Basilicata (-3,1%) to Sardinia (-0,6%).

The regions that historically give the greatest contribution in terms of total export volume, i.e. Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont and Tuscany, have nonetheless achieved double-digit growth in their exports.

In the comparison between European and non-European markets, the latter prove to be much more dynamic than the former and show significant increases for regions such as Calabria (+37,6%), Liguria (+31,2%), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (+28,9%), Sicily (+27,2%) and Puglia (+19,4%). For the EU area, the minor increases concern Liguria, Sicily, Campania, Molise and Marche in particular.

The sectoral analysis highlights important increases in the sales of base metals and metal products for Tuscany (+60%), Lombardy (+18.9%) and Veneto (19,7%) , machinery and equipment for Emilia-Romagna (+ 20,9%), Veneto (+18,1%) and Piedmont (15,9%) and refined petroleum products from Sicily (+23,7%). On the other hand, the sectors in greatest decline are the means of transport with the exception of motor vehicles (Sicily -83,6%) and natural gas which scores a -94,3% for Lombardy.

Further disaggregating the data at the provincial level, we note that they are the former 10 provinces contribute 42% to the overall growth of Italian exports.
