Istat and Bank of Italy: GDP improves

During the hearing held today in Parliament before the Budget Commissions, Istat number one Giorgio Alleva, in addition to having given a positive opinion on the 2017 Budget law, provided good news on GDP.

Based on the forecasts of the National Institute of Statistics "the economic situation in the third quarter of the year is characterized by the prevalence of signs of expansion, after the difficulties recorded in the previous three months". By virtue of the recovery brought about by the industrial sector, Italian growth in the July-September period can be considered "in line with that of the euro area". It should also be underlined that “for the last part of 2016 – underlines Alleva – no further acceleration of the economic activity is foreseen”.

The deputy general manager of Bankitalia, Federico Signorini, shares the same opinion, confirming that "the Italian economy is expanding, albeit at a moderate rate, the most recent economic information mostly shows a positive sign".

For this reason, the GDP estimates that the Government has made for 2017 (+1%), despite being "higher than the estimates of the main forecasters", according to the Bank of Italy are not "unattainable". The "recovery is moderate, there is, but it is struggling to strengthen" due to international uncertainty.
