Unemployment fell slightly in June. According to Istat data, the unemployment rate fell to 12,3% in June, down 0,3 points on May and up 0,1% on an annual basis. The data on youth unemployment remains dramatic: among the 15-24 year olds there are a total of 701 unemployed, for a percentage of 43,7%

Employment is slightly up. Employed people in June were 22 million 398 thousand, an increase of 0,2% compared to the previous month (+50 thousand) and substantially unchanged on an annual basis. The employment rate therefore, equal to 55,7%, grew by 0,2% on May e
by 0,1% on an annual basis.

The number of unemployed instead, equal to 3 million 153 thousand, decreased by 2,4% compared to the previous month (-78 thousand), while it increased by 0,8% on an annual basis (+26 thousand).

Also according to Istat, in July, the national consumer price index for the whole community (NIC), gross of tobacco, decreased by 0,1% compared to June and increased by 0,1% on an annual basis, to the lowest since August 2009. The slowdown in inflation is mainly attributable to the widening of the decline on an annual basis in the prices of regulated Energy, while the contribution of other product groupings is marginal.

Core inflation fell to 0,6% (from 0,7% in June), while acquired inflation for 2014 is stable at 0,3%. Compared to July 2013, the prices of goods decreased by 0,6% (it was -0,3% in June) while the growth rate of the prices of services remained stable at 0,8%.
