The growth of unemployment does not stop. According to Istat data, in April the jobless are 12%, up by 0,1% compared to March and by 1,5% on an annual basis, recording the new all-time high since the beginning of the monthly series (January 2004). In the first quarter of the year, however, the unemployment rate stabilized at 12,8%, up 1,8% on an annual basis, reaching another historic record, that of the quarterly series, which began in 1977.
The number of unemployed exceeds the 3 million mark, reaching 3 million 83 thousand units, while the youth unemployment rate continues to be very high: in the age group included between 15 and 24 years the jobless in April are 40,5% (+0,2% compared to March and +5,9% on an annual basis), a share that rises to 41,9% considering the first quarter.
The inactivity rate stood at 36,2%, up by 0,1% on a quarterly basis, but down by 0,1% on a year-on-year basis. Full-time employees fell by 3,4%, while part-time employees continued to increase sharply (6,2%, equal to +235.000 units)
At the territorial level, in the first quarter of 2013, the unemployment rate grew, on an annual basis, in all parts of Italy: from 7,6% to 9,2% in the North, from 9,6% to 11,3 .17,7% in the Center and from 20,1% to XNUMX% in the South.
