Unemployment at an all-time high since 2004. In February, the army of the jobless, according to data provided by Istat, rose in Italy to 2,3 million units (2.354.000 to be exact), reaching the percentage of 9,3% compared to 9,1% in January.
If you look at the quarterly historical series, to find such a high figure you have to go back to twelve years ago, i.e. to fourth quarter of 2000, when unemployment hit 9,5%.
“The labor market – explained the Istat technicians – continues to be characterized by the decline in employment and the growth of unemployment“. On an annual basis, the number of unemployed increases by 16,6% (335 units). The enlargement of the area of unemployment "affects both men and women“, underlined Istat.
