Italian unemployment shows a real surge. The jobless rate jumped to 8,3% in September from 8% in August, returning at November 2010 levels. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that the number of unemployed has exceeded 2 million. The rate also recorded an increase of 0,3% on an annual basis.
“The increase in unemployment affects us to a similar extent both men and women. For both genders, the relative unemployment rate increases by 0,3 percentage points”, explains an Istat researcher. The employment rate instead fell to 56,9%, down by 0,2 percentage points on the previous month and by 0,1 in trend terms.
Also sharp increase in youth unemployment, which always last September is back to its highest level since 2004, beginning of the historical series. The unemployed aged between 15 and 24 are the 29,3%, for a cyclical increase of 1,3%.
