The nightmare of unemployment continues. And it gets worse and worse. Istat communicates that in January the jobless rate in our country reached the highest levels in the last 11 years: 9,2% (2,3 million people), up 0,2 points from December and up 2001 point year on year. To find such a high figure, we need to go back to the first quarter of 9,3 (XNUMX%). Particularly dramatic situation for young people: between the ages of 15 and 24, 31,1% of Italians are unemployed. An increase of 0,1% compared to the previous month.

Inactive people between the ages of 15 and 64 decreased by 0,4% (-63 thousand units) compared to the previous month. The inactivity rate stands at 37,3%, down by 0,1 percentage points in quarterly terms and by 0,8 points on an annual basis.

In general terms, however, Istat notes that in January the number of occupied records a positive change of 0,1% (+18 thousand units) compared to December. The positive result affects both the male and female components. In comparison with the previous year, employment shows a growth of 0,2% (+40 thousand units). The employment rate is 57%, up 0,1 points in comparison with the economic situation and 0,2 points compared to last year.
