Istat's preliminary report on foreign trade with non-EU countries has been released: in January there was a cyclical drop in exports (-5,0%), against a growth in imports (+2,8%). Compared to January 2011, however, there was a growth in exports of 4,8%, while imports remained substantially stationary, with a minimum variation of +0,2%.
In the last quarter, compared to the previous one, exports grew (+2,6%) and imports decreased (-1,3%). The trade deficit with non-EU countries has improved compared to January 2011, going from 5,584 billion then to 5,105 today.
Il energy deficit has reached 6 billion against 5,7 in January 2011, while the trade surplus widens by non-energy products which decreased from 83 million in 2011 to 917 million in 2012.
Again compared to January 2011, the exports that grew the most were those of energy (+55,0%), non-durable consumer goods (+8,1%) and intermediate products (+7,4%). Instrumental goods and durable consumer goods, on the other hand, fell (-8,1% and -2,5% respectively), while, as regards imports, the greatest increases, on a trend basis, were recorded in energy (+12,4 .3,8%), non-durable consumer goods (+3,7%) and durable consumer goods (+XNUMX%). Foreign purchases of the other main groupings are down.
