Business confidence is getting worse and worse. The index that measures the sentiment of Italian companies collapsed in August, going from 82,0 to 78,5 points. Istat made it known this morning. “The reduction in the overall index”, reads the press release, “is largely determined by decline in confidence observed in service, trade and construction companies, against a substantial stability of that of the manufacturing sector”.
However, assessments on orders from manufacturing firms improve, while production expectations worsen slightly; the balance relating to assessments on inventories remains unchanged.
