Istat: unemployment is growing, 12% in the second quarter

According to data published by the Institute of Statistics, the unemployment rate would have risen to 12% in the second quarter, up 1,5% on an annual basis - The number of unemployed exceeds 3 million - In the South the hemorrhage stronger jobs, but increases the number of employed people aged 50 or over.

Istat: unemployment is growing, 12% in the second quarter

Unemployment continues to rise in Italy. According to Istat data, in fact, the unemployment rate has risen up to 12% in the second quarter, up 1,5% year-on-year. Both the male component increased, from 9,8% in the same period of the previous year up to 11,5%, and the female component, from 11,4% to 12,8%.

The number of unemployed stood at 3.075.000, an increase of 370 thousand units on an annual basis. The increase, which is widespread throughout the country, mainly affects people aged 35 or over.

But youth unemployment continues to grow. In the second quarter of the year, the jobless rate in the 15-24 age group rose to 37,3% (+3,4%), with a peak of 51% for young women in the South.

The South is still the part of Italy where the haemorrhage of jobs is strongest: of the 585 units of the annual reduction in the number of employed, in fact, 335 are concentrated in the South, again according to data released by the Institute of statistics.

In this case, the reduction is greater for men, -3% against -1,9% for women. The number of employed people in the younger brackets and between 35 and 49 years of age decreased, while the number of employed people aged 50 and over grew, rising by 214 units on an annual basis.
