Istat, extra-EU trade recovering: positive balance of 495 million in March

Positive news from Italian import/export outside the EU borders. In March the trade balance of our country shows a surplus of 495 million, a clear improvement compared to the strong deficit recorded in the same period last year (-3,064 billion). This was reported by Istat on the basis of preliminary estimates of extra-EU foreign trade. In detail, the increase was 4% on a monthly basis for exports, while imports recorded a decrease of 1,5%.

The cyclical increase in exports it is widespread in all the main groupings, excluding non-durable consumer goods (-1,1%), and is particularly strong for energy (+39,7%). On the import front the decline mainly affects consumer goods (-9,9%) and intermediate products (-1,7%), while capital goods (+4,1%) and energy (+1,4%) grow.

In the last quarter the cyclical growth of exports (+2,4%) particularly affects energy (+39,2%) and, to a much less intense extent, consumer durables (+1,1%) and intermediate products ( +0,9%). The growth in imports (+0,8%) is also mainly due to energy (+10,0%).
