The summer did not serve to reassure consumers. The index surveyed by Istat on the climate of confidence decreased in August from 103,7 to 100,3. A general decline which however marks a heavy collapse especially as regards the economic sector, whose index falls from 74,9 to 70,0. Confidence in the personal situation fell from 118,8 to 116,2, while the datum on the current picture went from 116,5 to 112,8 and that relating to short-term expectations went from 87,8 to 87,5.
The sharpest decline is that in the field of assessments on the Italian economic situation with regard to the durable goods market. Only a slight decrease for expectations on savings and on the evolution of the labor market. Judgments about personal situations and family budgets improve. Consumer prices remain stable compared to July, but forecasts on the evolution of inflation in the coming months show a decrease compared to last month.
