Trade surplus down in May. This was communicated by Istat, according to which the surplus in trade with non-EU countries stood at 2.449 million euros, down on the 2.934 million recorded in May 2013. The surplus in the trade of non-energy products shows a slight downward trend, going from +6,6 billion euro (May 2013) to +6,4 billion euro (May 2014).
Compared to May 2013, there was a weak growth in exports, equal to 0,3%, while imports recorded a tendential increase of 1,3%.
At the economic level, on the other hand, strong growth was recorded for both flows, more marked for exports. In fact, exports recorded a 5,7% increase compared to April, while imports, which recorded a +4,8%. The cyclical growth in sales to non-EU countries concerned all the main groupings of goods, and capital goods in particular. As far as imports are concerned, the growth is mainly attributable to energy products (+16,3%).
