The number of the non-EU present in Italy. This was revealed by Istat in a note published today, in which it communicates that "As of 1 January 2015, based on the data provided by the Ministry of the Interior, 3.929.916 non-EU citizens are legally present in Italy" up by 55 units (+1,4%) compared to the previous year.

I most represented countries they are Morocco (518.357), Albania (498.419), China (332.189), Ukraine (236.682) and the Philippines (169.046). 24% of legally residing EU citizens are minors. It is, therefore, a relatively young population, since the share of minors in the entire population is equal to 16,6%.

Long-term residents are 2.248.747 in 2015, for a share of 57,2%. In decline, however, the number of new residence permits granted: in 2014 248.323 were released, about 3% less than in 2013. The number of entries by women is down (-14%) while, on the contrary, those of men are increasing (+7,5%).

The reduction in permits mainly involves regions of Northern Italy, such as Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Lombardy. On the other hand, the permits in Campania (+3.120, 19%) and Sicily (+3.483, 28%) are on the rise. In 2014, in any case, there was a sharp contraction in entries for work reasons, both in absolute terms (-27.500) and in relative terms, going from 33% to 23%.
