Istat: confidence in manufacturing, services and construction firms drops in September

In September, the confidence of manufacturing, construction, services and trade firms declined. This is what emerges on the basis of the latest surveys carried out by Istat.

The climate of confidence in the manufacturing sector showed a significant drop, going to 94,5 from 98,6 in the month of August. Important decrease also for services and commerce: the index shows a drop from 93,9 to 82,5 for the former and a contraction from 97,1 to 94,6 for the latter.

As regards manufacturing, the index fell in all three main groupings of industries, going from 96,9 to 90,2 in capital goods, from 99,3 to 95,5 in consumer goods and from 99,3 to 97,1 in intermediate goods.

Istat underlined how assessments on export turnover have remained stable, while “the share of those reporting the presence of export obstacles is increasing and that of those who judge export prices higher than those charged on the market is decreasing internal".

In trade, the indicator rises slightly in large-scale distribution (from 92,6 to 93,1), but drops sharply in traditional distribution (from 104,1 to 97,8). Both assessments and expectations on sales worsen and the balance relating to inventories rises.
