Istat, 4 million employees awaiting renewal in July

In July, the index of hourly contractual wages remained unchanged compared to June, while it grew by 1,5% on an annual basis.

In Italy there are 35 collective agreements awaiting renewal, of which 16 belong to the public administration. The workers involved reach 3,9 million and of these, most (around three million) are state employees. The waiting months for workers with expired contracts are on average 31,6, a marked increase compared to July 2011 (19,4). This is what emerges from the latest Istat data on the labor market relating to last month.

The national collective bargaining agreements in force for the economic part correspond to 70,3% of employed employees and to 66,6% of the payroll observed. Also last month, among the contracts monitored by the survey, there was no renewal. 

In general, the share of employees awaiting renewal was 29,7% last month, up on June (29,0%), after the expiry of the paper, cardboard, converting and industrial laundry contracts.

Solo in the private sector, the share of employees awaiting renewal is 8,5%. Also in this case the value is up on the previous month (7,6%), but down on July 2011 (13,1%).  

For payroll, in July the index of hourly contractual wages remained unchanged compared to June, while it grew 1,5% year-on-year. On average for the January-July 2012 period, the index grew by 1,4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Contractual hourly wages show a trend increase of 2% for employees in the private sector and a zero change for those in the public administration.

The sectors that show the greatest trend increases in July are: electricity and gas (2,9%), textiles, clothing and leather processing (2,8%), chemicals, wood, paper and printing, water and waste disposal (2,7 .XNUMX% in all aggregates). On the other hand, zero variations were recorded for agriculture, telecommunications and all sectors of the public administration.
