Particularly disadvantaged, from this point of view, are the women, who represent 52,9% of pensioners, but receive allowances on average lower than those of men. Among women, in fact, the share of people who receive pensions of less than a thousand euros rises to 49,2%, against 30,3% of men.

In the year considered by the Istat report, 2014, theaverage annual amount of pensions showed an increase of 2,1% on an annual basis, settling at 11.943 euros, 245 euros more than in 2013.

Overall, spending on pension benefits grew by 1,6% compared to the previous year, to 277,067 billion euros, and its incidence on GDP grew by 0,2 percentage points from 16,97% to 17,17 2011%, despite the fact that between 2014 and 400 pensioners in Italy decreased by over 16,2 thousand units, to XNUMX million people.
