Israel-Hamas: the school launches an appeal for peace

Il Educational Cooperation Movement, faced with the events that continue to bloodied the Middle East, condemns resolutely every form of violence, oppression, aggression and war against the Israeli and Palestinian civilian populations.

The atrocious attack by Hamas is in no way justifiable nor is the response of the Israeli government. Everything that is happening fuels the desperation and exasperation of the Palestinian people, victims of occupation and non-recognition of their statehood for decades. We feel that all the victims of this conflict are our brothers and sisters.

Ci we appeal to the UN Security Council so that it assumes its responsibility as a guarantor body of international law asking the parties for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, respect for humanitarian rights.

There can never be peace and security without both peoples being allowed to live in the same region with the same rights.

We support the Israelis and the Palestinians who even in this tragic situation have not stopped demonstrating and working together for respect and the mutual right to live in peace and freely in their own state.

The Educational Cooperation Movement adheres to the appeals launched by the pacifist movements for the iimmediate ceasefire and for the restoration of basic conditions of a dignified life for the populations involved.

We know that any war, any armed conflict, always brings with it death, destruction, violence and generates injustice, sows and prepares the foundations for subsequent wars.

In this tragic moment, as educators, we must ask ourselves what the school can and must do.

Practicing peace means day after day creating the conditions in which our students understand the value of listening and dialogue, respect for other people's points of view to find together the solution to conflicts that arise from the lack of recognition of others.

The cooperative dimension of education, which distinguishes us as a Movement, then becomes the foundation for building peace starting from near and reaching far away.
