Israel-Emirates-Bahrain: peace against Iran. And Trump celebrates

they call them "Agreements of Abraham”, with biblical bombast. On one side Israel, on the other UAE e Bahrain. The parties have signed the agreement announced last month to normalize diplomatic relations. Grand master of the ceremony was Donald Trump, who hosted the event at the White House on Tuesday.

For the American President, the signature represents a major propaganda success ahead of the presidential elections in November. "A historic day for peace - commented Trump - a new Middle East is born with an agreement that no one thought was possible and which will soon be signed by five or six other Arab countries".

The Israeli premier echoed him, Benyamin Netanyahu, which in exchange for peace simply has suspended (but not archived) the annexation of the West Bank: “A new dawn of peace, let's overcome divisions and listen to the heartbeat of history”.

Actually, the chords mostly explain themselves in anti-Iran function, a common enemy of the United States, Israel and the Sunni Middle East. Although formally theSaudi Arabia has not (yet) taken part in the agreements, in fact, it is impossible for the agreement to materialize without the consent of Riyadh, given the relationship of subjection that binds Bahrain to the Saudi monarchy and the historical alliance of this with Washington. Not surprisingly, among the next countries that could sign the agreement is Saudi Arabia, together with Oman.

Netanyahu thus formalizes a new alliance against Tehran, but at the same time - thanks to the mediation of the United States - does not make any concrete commitment with the Palestinians, who in fact speak of a "stab in the back".

Mohammed Shtayyeh, the Palestinian prime minister, defined yesterday as "a dark day", while the president Abu Mazen he clarified that "there will be no peace, security or stability in the region without the end of the occupation and the achievement for the Palestinian people of their full rights as established by legitimate international resolutions". The Abraham Accords “will not allow peace to be reached until the US and the Israeli occupation recognize it the right of the Palestinian people to an independent state", He concluded.
