Sensory isolation and bicycle seats: this is the future of flying

The airline has just patented new headrests with a kind of helmet that will serve to obtain a "sensory isolation" from the outside world - Airbus itself is reportedly planning to replace, in the economy classes, the traditional seats with seats similar to those of the bicycles.

Sensory isolation and bicycle seats: this is the future of flying

Airbus is preparing to surprise its passengers, revolutionizing the offer of in-flight entertainment. In fact, new headrests will be installed on its aircraft, just patented, equipped with a kind of helmet which, when viewed, is not so different from those we are used to finding in hairdressing salons. But appearances are deceiving: instead, it is a highly sophisticated device that allows for “sensorial isolation” from the external environment. Thanks to a technology similar to that of Google Glass, the wearer of the helmet will thus be immersed in his own reality, in which he will be able to watch television, enjoy a film, enjoy video games, talk on the phone with other "helmets", listen to music , write messages and much more. The appliance also boasts an air circulation system in which it is possible to introduce smells and perfumes, in order to create an "olfactory isolation". The creators, insisting on this last property of the "headrest", highlight the benefit that passengers with a phobia of flying, or simply anxious, could derive from inhaling essences with a relaxing effect. "Luxury" helmets are also being studied, equipped with the possibility of selecting 3D images or holographic videos.

Airbus shows that it oscillates curiously between a completely comfortable concept of flight and a decidedly spartan one. In fact, the project to replace the traditional seats in economy class with child seats similar to those on bicycles comes from the same company, to cram as many passengers as possible into the aircraft, to the detriment of comfort and safety
