Ischia, the seismic risk map in Italy

The earthquake of Ischia, although of reduced intensity to those that have tragically made the history of earthquakes in Italy (most recently that of Amatrice, which dates back to exactly one year ago), places the seismic risk on the peninsula at the center of current events, with all related issues such as illegal building, prevention and reconstruction. The earthquake that occurred two days ago is the fifth of a certain significance to have occurred in Italy in the last 12 months: from that of Amatrice on 24 August last, passing through the two autumn tremors again in Central Italy, the second of which was very strong, on 30 October, with its epicenter in Norcia, up to that of January 18 in Capitignano. The magnitudes in those cases were all between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Richter scale.

In Ischia there were two victims, but there are even more wounded, even seriously, and displaced people who reach over 2.600, with all that this also entails on the tourism front, on a relatively small island which also lives and above all of that. We therefore re-propose the seismic risk map in Italy, in the latest version updated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The map shows that Ischia, like the city of Naples, is located in an area of medium danger, significantly lower than that of already severely affected areas such as Friuli, Central Italy, Irpinia, Calabria and Sicily.
