Ireland sells stake in Aer Lingus to holding company Iag

The Government of Ireland has given the green light to the acquisition of Aer Lingus by Iag (International Airlines Group, a giant in the sector that controls British Airways and Iberia).

Dublin agreed to the sale of its own 25% stake in the air carrier explaining, through the mouth of the Irish Minister of Transport, Paschal Donohoe, that the agreements on the sale provide that Iag will have to guarantee its slots at Heathrow for the next seven years and that it will not affect the company's workforce.

"The government - said Paschal Donohoe - considers that the sale of the minority stake of the State to IAG would guarantee the best means of expanding Ireland's connection with the rest of the world while maintaining a vibrant and competitive airline industry in the country".

The multinational holding company IAG will pay €2,55 for each Aer Lingus share for a total of 1,4 billion euros.
