Iren: "F2i interested in joining the Ambiente fund"

The meeting between the CEO of F2i Vito Gamberale and the mayor Pizzarotti is expected in Parma on Monday: for Andrea Viero, CEO of Iren, it is a clear sign of F2i's interest in joining the Ambiente fund, for the construction of the waste-to-energy plant - “If he hadn't been interested in the project, he wouldn't have asked the mayor for a meeting”.

The meeting between theThe CEO of the F2i fund is Vito Gamberale and the mayor of Parma Federico Pizzarotti, expected for next Monday, would be a clear indication of F2i's interest in Iren's entry into the Ambiente fund, which will merge the Parma and Piacenza waste-to-energy plants. To say it is Andrea Viero, general manager of the multi-utility based in Reggio Emilia, who presented yesterday the 2012 results, a year marked by the return to profit for the company.

The request for a clarifying meeting between the parties follows the controversy over the construction of the incinerator, with the mayor Grillino of Parma who had declared himself firmly against it since the election campaign. The sentence of the Cassation on the appeal presented by the Parma prosecutor's office is still pending on the construction of the plant. As a result of these contrasts, F2i has blocked the investment of 80 million euros to enter Iren's Ambiente fund.

For Viero, however, this meeting is a sign of the willingness to resume negotiations: "I don't think that if it hadn't been more interested in the project, the fund would have asked the mayor of Parma for a meeting". The Iren manager then continued as follows: “It is an institutional and courtesy meeting in which the F2i fund presents itself. If the fund wishes to present itself to the mayor of Parma, it means that it is interested in acquiring shares in the incinerator and concluding the environment fund operation. That's the correct reading I would give."
