Ambassador, is it possible to take stock of the results of the activities carried out in the fight against Daesh in Iraqi territory? To this question by Ofcs Report, the Iraqi ambassador Ahmad AH Bamarni replied as follows: “I think that the militiamen are retreating more and more. In the last 10 months they have lost between 65% and 70% of the areas that were under their control. Wherever we go with our military, Peshmerga or security forces, we see that they either leave without a fight or engage in only mild confrontations. We recently captured one of Iraq's largest military bases, at Al Qayyarah, 70 kilometers south of Mosul, with hardly a shot fired. The jihadists have literally fled. This, unfortunately, is also the reason why they carry out so many terrorist attacks and crimes against the local population, which in some cases is still under their control and their pressure".
The interview continues touching on the aspects of the Turkish crisis after the attempted coup, the risk of radicalization of Islamic fundamentalism in those territories and relations with the West.
