Intesa-Unicredit-Mps merger hypothesis: Sienese bank stock soars on the Stock Exchange

Despite the categorical denials of the groups concerned, Mps benefits from the rumors about a hypothetical maxi merger with Unicredit and Intesa and leaps by 4% in Piazza Affari

Intesa-Unicredit-Mps merger hypothesis: Sienese bank stock soars on the Stock Exchange

The share of Banca Mps flies today in Piazza Affari. This morning Il Sole 24 Ore released the news of the presence of a dossier from an investment bank that plans a mega merger between the banks Mps, Intesa and Unicredit. It is probably "fantasy finance" but the news brought great benefits to the shares of the Sienese bank which at 13,15 pm gained 3,89% to 1,63 euros.

Despite the denials coming from Intesa SanPaolo with the managing director Carlo Messina who wanted to underline a "categorical denial on all fronts", the MPS price rises above 1,63, a value it has not reached since last September 22nd. Meanwhile, the rumors about the dossier of the hypothetical merger of the three Italian banks alarm Fabi, the main banking union. According to Fabi, in fact, in the event of the eventual implementation of the maxi-merger, 25 redundancies would be created and at least 2 bank branches cut.

“As is now well known – says the secretary Fabi Lando Maria Sileoni – the self-referential and propaganda proposals of consultancy firms and investment banks are almost never reflected in reality. More than a suggestion, the idea of a merger between the three major institutions in the country looks like an advertising spot to acquire millionaire consulting contracts and receive handsome profits. Normally, if you want to be right and if you want to avoid mistakes, it's enough to do the exact opposite of what the consultancy firms and the investment banks themselves propose”.
