iPhone sales make Apple fly, Nokia weighs on Microsoft

In the third quarter, the Cupertino-based giant sold 35,2 million iPhones, 13% more than last year, and 13,3 million iPads, launching itself with optimism in the bet of a new phone with a large screen – Up Microsoft, on the other hand, weighs the negative impact of the Nokia deal.

Apple exceeds expectations as iPhone sales jump, while Microsoft slows down. Cupertino's third-quarter net income jumped 12% to $7,75 billion; revenues, on the other hand, increased 6% to $37,4 billion, while gross margin was 39,4%, compared with 36,9% recorded in the same quarter a year ago.

Weighing on Redmond's accounts is Nokia, whose negative impact overshadows the strong performance of Windows, Office and other software. “I'm proud that our aggressive cloud push is paying off,” says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella nonetheless.
