Waterproof iPhones? It's not true: the Antitrust fines Apple

- iPhone I'm really impermeable? THE'Italian antitrust says no and Apple fined 10 million euros. The case revolves around two commercial practices of Apple that the Authority considers "incorrect". The first concerns advertisements for various iPhone models (8, 8 Plus, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11pro and 11 pro Max), presented as “water resistant” up to 30 minutes, for a maximum depth ranging from one to four metres.

According to the Antitrust, however, Apple fails to specify “that this property can be found only in the presence of specific conditions – reads the note from the Authority – for example during specific and controlled laboratory tests with the use of static and pure water, and not under the normal conditions of use of the devices by consumers”. At the same time, Apple protects itself by writing that “the warranty does not cover damage caused by liquids”, but according to the Antitrust this is not enough to clarify the ideas of consumers: on the contrary, it is the proof, if anything, that the advertisement contained misleading information.

It's not over. The Cupertino company was also fined for having rifiutato "in the after-sales phase, to provide warranty service when those iPhone models were damaged due to the introduction of water or other liquids For these reasons, the Authority has decided to impose fines on Apple Distribution International and Apple Italia Srl for a total of 10 million euros and has ordered the publication of an extract of the provision on the company's website. .

The fine by the Italian Antitrust, limited by legal provisions, compares with the balance sheet data of the American giant which has just closed the last fiscal year with a turnover of 274,5 billion dollars.
