Intesa Sanpaolo for the needy: agreement with the Food Bank and Pharmaceutical Bank

Until 2021, the bank will support the two Foundations to increase the collection and distribution of meals and medicines: almost 8 million meals will be delivered from food surpluses from industries, large-scale distribution, collective catering and almost 150 medicines still valid from pharmacies and from pharmaceutical companies.

Ten thousand meals a day and 3 thousand medicines a month are one of the objectives of the 2018-2021 Business Plan presented by Intesa Sanpaolo last February. An important step in this direction are the two agreements signed with the Banco Alimentare Onlus and Banco Farmaceutico Onlus Foundations. According to the agreements, until 2021 Intesa Sanpaolo undertakes to support the activity of the two Foundations for the collection and distribution to the charitable organizations that assist the needy of almost 8 million meals and almost 150 valid medicines. The two projects to combat food and health poverty will be applied throughout Italy, by growing existing collection centres, promoting new ones and favoring distribution flows to areas of greatest need. The two agreements fully reflect the Bank's attention to all the socio-economic components of the country and the values of solidarity shared by the people of the Group.

“The recovery phase of our country's economy is accompanied by a growth in inequalities and areas of poverty. Our support for the Italian economy cannot ignore those who are in difficult situations, also due to the serious crisis of recent years. For this reason, we have included specific and concrete initiatives in the Business Plan to support those in conditions of poverty and social hardship. The stipulation of the important collaboration agreements with the Banco Alimentare and the Banco Farmaceutico represents a fundamental step in contrasting the difficulties of the poor", he comments Charles Messina, Managing Director and CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo.
