Intesa Sanpaolo participates in the Food Collection Day

Intesa Sanpaolo, together with Banca Prossima, the Intesa Sanpaolo bank dedicated to the Third Sector, renews its support for National Food Collection Day which will take place Saturday November 25 throughout Italy.

Arrived at twenty-first edition, the Day is aimed at collecting long-life foods donated by those who will go shopping in about 13 supermarkets scattered throughout the country. This initiative, promoted by the Banco Alimentare Foundation, will be made possible by 145 thousand volunteers.

The food collected will be distributed to over 8 charitable organizations (soup kitchens, communities for minors, solidarity banks, reception centres, etc.) which help more than one and a half million needy people in Italy, of which almost 135 children up to 5 years old. In fact, the collection aims to supplement what the Food Bank does on a daily basis in terms of combating food waste and redistributing it to those in need.

The initiative enjoys the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic and is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Army and the participation of tens of thousands of volunteers belonging to the National Alpine Association, the San Vincenzo De Paoli Society and the Compagnia delle Opere Social.

Until 27 November it will also be possible to support the initiative by sending an SMS to 45547 or by calling the same number from a landline. You can also donate through For Funding (www.forfunding.it), the crowdfunding platform of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.

The initiative is part of a broader project to combat poverty which, since its inception, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group has been pursuing with determination. For some years, Intesa Sanpaolo recovers food surpluses from its company canteens in Milan and Turin on a daily basis which, through the volunteers of the Food Bank, are redistributed in the centers that offer meals to people in need.

Furthermore, through Intesa Sanpaolo Onlus, the philanthropic foundation of Intesa Sanpaolo, 7.600 meals and 850 beds are guaranteed every day in canteens and dormitories throughout Italy. Since 2012, the foundation has helped around 220 canteens and dormitories for a total of 900 euros.

Lastly, Intesa Sanpaolo participates in the QuBì program - The recipe against child poverty in Milan, promoted by the Cariplo Foundation. A 25 million euro program which also includes the Vismara Foundation and the Fiera Milano Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and the Third Sector organizations operating on this front. According to the most recent data, in fact, in Milan 20 minors, one out of ten, live in conditions of absolute poverty.
