Intesa Sanpaolo and the Cariplo Foundation celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Cassa di Risparmio delle Province Lombarde

Intesa Sanpaolo and the Cariplo Foundation today brought together bankers, scholars and economists at the Fondazione Cariplo Conference Center in Milan to celebrate the two hundred years since the establishment of the Cassa di Risparmio delle Provinciale Lombarde, which took place on 12 June 1823, was the oldest bank in Lombardy which became a fundamental driver of the economic development of Lombardy and for the spread of the culture of saving.

Through Cariplo's profits, which were largely 'returned' to charity in the local area, the virtuous savings/charity circuit found a formidable impetus: the donations contributed to the creation of a complex welfare system which has affected some key infrastructures of Lombardy society (hospitals, kindergartens, welfare facilities for the poor first and foremost).

From archive to podcast

The archive of the Savings Bank of the Lombardy Provinces, with its 4 km of documentation from 1472 to 2000, over 200.000 photographs, thousands of videos, objects and volumes, constitutes an invaluable heritage for the knowledge and study of what was the largest savings bank in the world and can be consulted by appointment at the Intesa Sanpaolo Historical Archive in Via Morone 3 in Milan.
Il podcast 'The 200 years of Cariplo' already available on Intesa Sanpaolo On Air within Anniversaries and the documentary 'Good growth. 200 years of Cariplo', produced by 3D Produzioni with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, scheduled on Rai channels in January, tells the story of the Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde starting from what the Cassa has always been for the people Lombardy: help in difficult times, promoter of the common good, engine of progress in the region.
