Intesa Sanpaolo: 1,7 million against violence against women


November 25 is the International Day against Violence against Women
. An appointment preceded by increasingly worrying and dramatic data. Indeed, with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the phenomenon of violence against women has become even more tragic. The lockdown has significantly and negatively affected individual behavior, due to social isolation and the economic-financial crisis which have exacerbated intra-family tensions. Calls to the anti-violence number 1522 increased by 73% during the lockdown and female victims who asked for help by 59%. 45,3% of the victims are afraid for their safety or to die; 72,8% do not report the crime suffered; in 93,4% of cases the violence takes place within the home. (Istat data 2020)

On the occasion of the international day against violence against women, Intesa Sanpaolo provides the amount allocated to the Charity Fund and works of a social nature for projects to combat violence against women. From January 2019 to today the figure amounts to 1,7 million, 10% of the total endowment of the fund. 

The projects supported are aimed at women and minors with assistance, support and reception services. Between supported projects include:

  • The EMMA Onlus Anti-Violence Centers which carry out the “HELP SOS” project in Turin and Pinerolo with the aim of promoting the emergence of the phenomenon of violence against women. The beneficiaries are about 100 women.
  • In Pavia the "HELP" project by LiberaMente which intends to strengthen the assistance and support services for women who turn to the anti-violence center managed by the institution. The beneficiaries are 130 women users of the anti-violence center and/or hosted in protected structures.
  • In the province of Reggio Emilia, the Nondasola Women Together Against Violence Onlus Association is implementing the project “Step by step. Support for the paths of autonomy of women coming out of situations of domestic violence".
  • In some provinces and cities of the Marches and Emilia Romagna, the Labirinto Social Cooperative carries out the project “L'ARMADIO” – Integrated territorial model of support for victims of violence and perpetrators”.
  • The “FREE FROM, FREE FOR” project by Differenza Donna – Association of women against violence against women will guarantee immediate protection to women victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation in Lazio. The beneficiaries are about 70 women.
  • In Rome, Naples and Cosenza WeWorld Onlus will carry on the “Spazio Donna Italia” project by providing places of aggregation and socialization for women who live in difficult contexts where they can follow courses for the care of themselves and others, complete their studies (obtaining the middle school) and undertake work training courses. The beneficiaries are over 500 women between 15 and 55 years old and at least 200 children between 0 and 8 years old.
