Intesa Sanpaolo: 100 million for the fight against Covid

Since the beginning of the epidemiological crisis, Intesa Sanpaolo has wanted to join our country's efforts to tackle this emergency, contributing both significantly and structurally to strengthening the National Health System. From the signing of the collaboration protocol with the Extraordinary Commissioner and the Civil Protection, a total of 100 million euros were donated to the Italian health system for the fight against Covid. New measures are now in the works for the economic and social revitalization of the country.

The results were surprising: they benefited from the donation 16 hospital facilities and 2 newly created Covid Emergency Centers in 8 Italian regions: Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania and finally Sicily.

In particular, the Group has allowed the creation of as many as 36 healthcare wards from scratch, re-converted wards for the management of the Covid-19 emergency and specialist diagnostic laboratories, as well as the increase of approx. 500 new beds mainly of intensive and sub-intensive care.

It has also, so far, allowed an endowment of over 1.900 medical and diagnostic equipment indispensable for patient management, including ventilators, CPAP helmets, respirators, infusion pumps, cold nebulizer systems, high-flow monitors and humidifiers, CT scans, ultrasound, reagents necessary for the production of diagnostic kits.

To guarantee the safety of doctors and healthcare workers, the Banking Group has contributed, allocating a part of the donation, for the supply of over 21 million pieces of personal protective equipment, such as masks, gloves, overalls and gowns.

The crowdfunding campaign linked to the donation on the Intesa Sanpaolo platform has raised so far 2,3 million euros from 14 donors. The deadline is August 31, 2020.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has clearly highlighted how private institutions are called upon to play a supporting role for the public sector to contribute to the common interest - he declared Carlo Messina, CEO and Managing Director of Intesa Sanpaolo – It is a pride and a satisfaction to see how Intesa Sanpaolo has contributed, in the health emergency phase, with interventions that will also bring benefits in the future. Our commitment is the result of the Bank's results and its solidity and reverberates in progress for the whole community. In this new phase, where the emergency is social and economic, we will continue to support the recovery of the country with further significant measures".
