Understanding and MasterCard against food poverty

Intesa Sanpaolo and MasterCard run to help Italian families. The new agreement was created to support the initiative of Caritas Italiana, to counter the food emergency following the health crisis. Banking Group customers who withdraw by card at the 8 ATMs will be able to donate 1 €, quickly and safely, to guarantee a meal to Italians in difficulty.

The three-year agreement is aimed at promoting and supporting donations to the project Caritas Italiana "Coronavirus emergency: alongside families in difficulty, one dish at a time", already active on the platform forfunding.it, the Intesa Sanpaolo crowdfunding platform dedicated to non-profit organizations.

Caritas Italiana's Solidarity Emporium was created to make shopping accessible to those who cannot afford it: it is a service similar to a supermarket where families can choose and purchase all basic foodstuffs free of charge.

Thanks to the new collaboration, customers of the Sanpaolo Group by debit or prepaid card on the MasterCard and Maestro circuits, may decide to donate, at the end of the withdrawal operation and before withdrawing the card. Each Bank customer will be able to see a screen proposing a donation of a predetermined amount to the project.

The social emergency resulting from Covid has increased food poverty in all Italian regions. According to a recent survey by MasterCard, during the epidemiological emergency, over 37% of Italians they donated to charities, especially the younger ones.

"We are happy to expand our platform model to include donations at ATMs for the first time, to allow all Italians to transform a simple daily gesture into an act of solidarity and concrete, safe and accessible support for all"- he declared Michael Centemero, Country Manager Italy of MasterCard.

instead, Andrew Lecce – Sales & Marketing Manager for Individuals and Retail Companies of Intesa Sanpaolo – underlined how in 3 years of forfunding activity it has hosted over 192 non-profit projects of 165 third sector entities, to support important social solidarity projects even before the epidemiological emergency.
