Intesa and Cdp: 300 million loan to Fincantieri

A loan for up to 300 million euros, linked to sustainability practices for the construction of a cruise ship to be delivered in 2023

Intesa and Cdp: 300 million loan to Fincantieri

Intesa Sanpaolo, Cassa depositi e prestiti and Fincantieri have finalized a construction loan "sustainability linked” for a maximum amount of 300 million euros. This is the first operation of this type for the naval group and the proceeds will be used to cover the financial needs associated with the construction of a new ship from cruise to be delivered in 2023.

In particular, the loan is linked to the achievement of three specific performance indicators (Key performance indicators, "Kpi") included in Fincantieri's sustainability plan for the three-year period 2018-2022: the efficient management of energy consumption, the sustainability of the supply and training of employees. Based on the achievement or otherwise of these objectives, the agreement provides for an upward or downward mechanism of the cost of financing for the naval group, calculated according to a symmetrical grid at the end of the operation.

In light of the progress of the ship's construction works, Fincantieri plans to partially use the sustainability-linked loan by the end of 2021. There are no further details regarding the identity of the unit under construction.

In the meantime, Fincantieri has delivered to its shipyard in Norway, the "Viking Octantis“, first of two expedition cruise ships for Viking, sister ship to “Viking Polaris”, due for delivery next year.

Both can accommodate 378 people on board in 189 cabins. “The units are Polar Class 6 certified for expeditions to polar regions, and are sized to navigate remote areas and the St. Lawrence River while maintaining maneuverability and stability. Plumb bows, extended hulls and state-of-the-art stabilizers will allow ships to glide on the waves for comfortable cruising, strengthened hulls will provide a guarantee for ice exploration and “u-tank” stabilizers will significantly reduce roll up to 50% parked”, reads a note from the naval group.
